Presenting the petition

Last Tuesday March 31st, Elizabeth and I presented ourselves to the owner of the warehouse to ask him if we could work something out as we had not heard back from him. New information came to light which is that the liability issue of us entering the premises is in fact the main one, not the rats. We reiterated that we had offered to draw up a legal document waiving any responsibility but the answer was “They wouldn’t even look at it”, ‘they’ being his business partners.

It was then that we presented the petition and he agreed to look at it and discuss the situation with his partners. We left deflated but not hopeless.

The most disappointing remark from him, which was uncharacteristic, was “The cats were there before you came, and they will always be there”. We pointed out that the cats had in fact been taken care of by, bizarrely enough and unknown to me, Veruschka, the supermodel, who moved back to Germany taking eight of the ferals with her—so there used to be thirty. She just didn’t engage with the owner as we have been doing. And to claim that “they will always be there” is naive in the extreme: they may well be, but sick and starving.

Response…

On Friday April 3rd we received the following email:

“Hi until everything gets worked out no one is to enter our building. Thanks
David”

This is effectively barring us from feeding the cats for now. This is not a satisfactory situation while  ‘everything gets worked out’ and we’re doing what we can to provide water and wet food for them without trespassing.

However, the fact that the owner is even entertaining working out the situation gives us hope. It’s not a no, and I know that the strength of the petition and the level headed remarks contained in it, gave us a stronger  platform and we’re being taken seriously.

Thank you to all who contributed a signature and a remark.
